================================================================================ The complete C64 music collection Jens-Christian Huus ================================================================================ Tunes in NewPlayer v06 - v09, 1989-1990. All these tunes were made in the editor. I made contact with a lot of demogroups such as "Upfront", "2000 AD" and "Bones" - I managed to publish some of my work through their demos. From player v09 I contacted "Drax" after hearing his feeble attempts in a NOICE demo and offered him the editor - which he accepted at the 2000 AD party in Esbjerg. "Link" was the first person to achieve the editor however, which happened with player v05. In the end of 1988 he suggested that we ought to have a groupname - after some conversation on the telephone I then came up with the name we have now - "Vibrants". The music in this period was very varied in quality. Some are nice, others are downright nasty. Listen through them all and judge by yourself. ================================================================================ 42ND_STR.DAT 42nd Street A very weird tune with a very weird ending. After I named the tune "42nd Street" I played it in a driver on the C64 which could display the time - and to my surprise it lasted exactly 42 seconds! Hmmm... anybody read "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"? Well, I haven't! ;) ACID1988.DAT Acid 1988 Made in 1988 but packed and released several years later. I remember Maduplec wanted the tune badly but I wanted to finish it off - I should have given it to him when he asked for it. I made it just as the new acid style flourished in 1988. The bassline really needs some filtering. BITTER!.DAT Bitter! There's a solo at 02:23. BONES.DAT Bones+ CARCRASH.DAT Carcrash Extract from "Trapped" where the part from 02:55 was pulled out and saved in its own player. The name refers to the ring modula- tion effect which sounds like a car screeching to its doom. CENTRION.DAT Centurion If you listen to the melodic part at 00:46 you will hear a nice ring modulation effect. FEEL_IT.DAT Feel It Another tune that was packed and released at a much later date. GRT_EAR.DAT Great Ear Contains a daring set of notes in the end! :) HISCORE.DAT Hiscore HOLLOW.DAT Hollow+ This became a popular introtune in both Europe and USA. INTROZAK.DAT Introzak Very short introtune made for an intro by "2000 AD". It really needs the filtering on the bass, something that SidPlay does not offer at the time of writing this. LAXIN.DAT Laxin' Laxity made a very nice panflute in one of his songs. In fact, it was so nice that I accidently "copied" it. :) LEECH.DAT Leech... Named so because I was using my modem a lot on the C64 at that time. LONEWOLF.DAT Lonewolf The only tune made in the compromise player v07. The player was too awkward to use any further. MODEMTRD.DAT Modemtrading A silly little song I did in my modem trading days. If you listen carefully you can hear that I made a telephone ringing followed by a modem connecting! :) ODE_JO.DAT Ode to JO Made after I heard one of JO's terrific "hard restart" songs. I was impressed with the way his ADSR worked on his chord sounds, and I tried to do the same thing. However, I didn't really know what it was until JO told me how it was done. I then implemented it from player v11. PHERIC.DAT Pheric A tune using filtering in two voices which was very special. Normally only one voice uses filtering. The tune was packed and released at a much later date. RAINFUNK.DAT Rain Funk Released in a demo at the Randers copy-party, the very best C64 party there ever was. I remember I was proud because I got the idea of using filtered noise as rain before Tim Follin used it in his "Ghosts'n Ghouls". The rain really needs the filtering, something SidPlay does not offer at the time of writing this. REALGOOD.DAT Real "Good" Named so because I liked the result when I made it in 1988/1989. I remember I was so disappointed when I learned that "Einstein" of "Upfront" didn't like it - he was supposed to use it in a demopart. There are melodic changes at 03:09/03:39 and 04:57. REALSHIT.DAT Real Shit Actually extracted from a worktune called "Cause I Love Her So". I liked the start of the worktune but I thought this part didn't really belong so I extracted it to form a seperate song and made a lot of fast solo's on top of it. SECRLAND.DAT Secret Land Conversion of a hitsong from Sandra. I put a lot of work into making the conversion accurate. Made just before the party in Slagelse. SHRT_MAX.DAT Short Max SLAPBASS.DAT Slapbass A long tune based on a slapbass. The result doesn't really sound like a slapbass, but I couldn't get any closer at the time. Some years later, a dutch guy proved that by using the $51 waveform, you COULD get quite close indeed! Listen to a solo part from 03:01 - not bad at that time. STYLISH.DAT Stylish Another demotune for "Upfront". Listen to the part from 01:29, where the bassline gets faster. STYLE_II.DAT Stylish II TRAINING.DAT Training One of the first songs where I used a double voice drum. There's a very successful solo part from 02:38 to 03:12. TRAPPED.DAT Trapped This tune was originally made for a demo by "Trap" of "Bonzai". The melodic change at 02:55 was later extracted to form its own tune called "Carcrash". ULTRAEFF.DAT Ultraefficient One of the less interesting songs in this period. WHY.DAT Why... Slow song which builds up. Not very inspiring either. X-RAY.DAT X-Ray A trick introtune based on the idea of having a simple long filter tone in very short intro's on the C64. I got this idea of playing such a tone for some minutes, suddenly surprising everyone with a piece of music! The tone in the beginning really needs some filtering, something SidPlay sadly lacks at the time of writing this. ================================================================================
